Raising Mental Health Awareness in the Workplace

Many organisations are now recognising the importance of addressing mental health in the workplace, not only as a wellbeing priority, but as a key factor in performance, retention, and organisational culture.

During my years as the owner of a recruitment business, I observed how often employees struggled silently with stress, anxiety, depression, and burnout, while managers and leadership teams were not always equipped to recognise or respond to these challenges effectively.

My work today as a Psychotherapist and Counsellor in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, and online is focused not only on supporting individuals, but also on helping organisations build greater awareness, understanding, and confidence in addressing mental health in the workplace.

The Impact of Workplace Mental Health

When mental health challenges are not acknowledged or addressed, they can have a significant impact on both individuals and organisations, including:

  • Reduced productivity and engagement
  • Increased sickness absence
  • Higher staff turnover
  • Burnout and emotional exhaustion
  • Reduced morale and workplace cohesion
  • Leadership challenges and communication breakdowns

Improving mental health awareness within organisations supports not only employee wellbeing, but also long-term organisational performance and sustainability.
